Friday, July 31st is a rare celestial event: The full blue moon.

The blue moon is the perfect time to dream our world into being. In Inka, Hopi, Tibetan, Mayan, and other indigenous societies around the world, the elders carry on the tradition of gathering around a fire when the moon is full and dreaming of a world in which they want to live.

They envision the world they want their children’s children to inherit. This fire ceremony is a gathering of dreamers, who show up with love and intention to participate in co-creating the world into being.

When I began my training in Shamanic Energy Medicine, participating in my first fire ceremony marked a true change in my path. That night, I gathered with others who were on the path to heal themselves and the world we live in – a true group of lightworkers.. As the ceremony began under a beautiful, starry California sky, I could feel the energy of change: change in my path, change in my life, change that occurs by letting go of expectations and embracing what is. I was opening up to what I wanted to experience in my life.

In this fire ceremonial tradition, after opening with prayer, each individual can approach the fire and release into it a piece of wood which energetically holds the things which are no longer useful to that person. This symbolically releases the blocks to what each individual wants to create in life. That night, I sought to release the fear that was holding me back and my desire for approval from others. For so long, I had lived from a place of what others expected or wanted from me. I wanted to release this fear of being judged and judging others. It marked a true turning point for me; I was beginning to live in authenticity.

Since that evening, everything has been changing in perfect order in my life. Embracing my own truth has allowed me to help others do the same. The beauty of Shamanic Energy work has changed my personal life, and I seek every day to help clients who also want to change their energy and life paths.

It’s amazing how simple the reality is: we cannot embrace what we want unless we are willing to let go of the old and surrender to trusting Spirit and the universe.

So when you look upon the full blue moon in the next few days, take a few minutes to embrace Nature’s reminder of cycles. Remember that this new beginning is a chance for us to release the old and embrace the new once again.

Here are the steps I recommend to fully embrace this rare moon.

  1.  Let go. What no longer serves you? Are there things in your life you need to move on from? What of the past has come full circle and needs to be released? Create a blank canvas and paint a picture of what you want in your life. Set an intention to shed your past, old beliefs, and fears, which are holding you back. Remember this full moon represents completion or endings; it’s the perfect time to allow the energy of the full moon’s glow into your life. Create a space for cleansing. Feel the negative energy being washed away by this pure, healing light and allow your personal energy field to recharge.
  2.      Dream the new. Within a few days, there will be a new moon, a new time. If you knew there were no limits to what you could create in your life, what would you dream? Open yourself up to the possibility that anything you desire, anything that serves you, can be yours. Set the intention of the world you want to live in. Follow your heart and trust that a change in course may be exactly what universe is calling you to do.
  3.     Surrender. Know that your intentions are heard. Have the same faith as a child who wishes upon a star. In order to embrace the new, you have to trust the universe and go with the flow. Have steadfast faith that when you let go and trust, you are truly a co-creator with Spirit.

Happy Dreaming!

Happy Full Moon!
